Our Story

Apparently, they were married in a previous life! well, at least that’s a lot more interesting than the story behind how they met in this life (if you believe in that sort of thing). However, they are now in fact getting married (again, clearly because one lifetime of togetherness was insufficient) and have been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride since meeting online in October 2010.

On our engagement day
A series of conversations pretty much confirmed that they are both utterly and insanely obsessed with music so that was an easy box to tick. Other boxes ticked in quick succession were rhythm, bass, blues, jazz, rock, poetry, beat counts, recording, gadgets, musical instruments and acoustics. You could almost say this is a celestial union of musical geekdom.
Things just happened as if they were meant to. They didn’t find any need to think or to decide. All they did was, watch life magically bring them together so they could continue where they had left it the last time…

With Abhi's parents
Did you know ?
 ...Lakshmi and Abhishek both learnt
carnatic music from the same guru Smt. Padmavathy Ananthagopalan ?
...they both grew up in Annanagar  (Chennai). who knows how many times  they've passed each other blissfully ignorant of their future union (aah <sigh> so romantic..)

With Lacs' mom and dad
...they've both worked in IT companies. (but then again, 'who hasn't ?' )

...It took the two of them about twelve days after they started interacting to decide to get married (what? unbelievable!)

...their first 'date' was a carnatic music concert at Music Academy  (well, its original)

...Lakshmi's first attempt at a meal for Abhishek was a burnt dosa (because she started singing and got distracted!)

...when they first spoke to each other Lakshmi had just returned from Bangladesh to India, and Abhishek was on his way to Japan from Australia ( Love knows no boundaries!)

Trying our best at the Madras Mami Mama look :)
...the two of them love cycling, are vegetarian and are keen yoga practitioners (and they're going to make the world a better place!)

Him on her :

Lakshmi is extremely talented as a musician and her singing has moved me next to tears several times. I look forward to learning more carnatic music from her, something I've been wanting to do for ages.

She is one of the most accommodating and warm people I've met and it feels great to just be around her. She improves my mood by miles in microseconds and it always feels like she's doing it quite effortlessly.

I had no idea that she would take to yoga and spiritual practices so well, and her intensity and involvement surprise me almost to the point of jealousy.

eagerly anticipating the blissful days ahead...

Our experiments with the violin
Her on him :

It was love at first email ! ( come on ! it's the electronic era ! ) Abhishek swept me off my feet with just a few lines.

He is one with the most brilliant minds and it amazes me how simple he can be for his achievements academically and otherwise.

Photographed by our nephew Manas

He is so passionate about music and it's wonderful sharing musical experiences with him. He is a very encouraging person and his energy and attitude, really inspiring !

Abhi, this is for you...
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up, to more than I can be...

We hope you enjoyed reading this page as much as we enjoyed creating it. If you're feeling extra kind and warm and fuzzy (as we anticipate you must be by now) we've created a gift registry at http://www.weddinggiftsdirect.com.au [Under 'Find a Registry', use last name: ' Guru ' & month of wedding: ' May ' ] where you can buy us something that we'll need for our new home.
P.S : you can ignore the ferrari. we won't really need that :)

i met her briefly at a friend's catcheri and found her to be so charming and pleasant.

Until when are you in Madras ?Maybe we can come and see you guys in June.

  31. Dear Bismillah and Goddess of Mulaah!

I so wanted to make it for your wedding especially since I am in town now. Thought I would represent the the megamix mamis, but I've been asked to be in 3 weeks of annoying bed rest thanks to the tiny hairline fracture I had recently. My apologies!

Here's wishing you both the very best in life, luck and happiness!!! Hope to catch up with you'll soon.
